App rider reported that he intended on leading the race, but when runners to his outside displayed superior speed he was obliged to allow those runners to cross, which resulted in the gelding racing with cover. He said that his mount did not appreciate racing in amongst horses and, when asked to quicken near the 400m, failed to respond strongly to his riding and went to the line in a onepaced manner. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
